In summer 2020, XJTLU IS offering an online video series to give students a taste of what it is like to study Chinese with us.

Three videos have been provided by our excellent teachers to not only give you a chance to learn some Chinese but also experience our university environment, and explore some parts of Suzhou. The levels of our teaching videos include elementary, intermediate and advanced. Each video lasts 10-15 minutes. Most importantly, they are all free!

- As part of our unique model of instruction there are five study levels and you will be enrolled into the appropriate level for your needs. All four language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) will be taught with a focus on useable, everyday language that you might expect to use if you are visiting, living, working or travelling in China.
  Classes take place Monday to Friday, 10am to 1pm. Each week will be comprised of 15 hours of classroom-based language lessons and four hours of cultural understanding lessons. There will be plenty of opportunity to use the language you are learning on the street and in social situations.

The accommodation facilities our students stay in are located within the Suzhou Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District and managed privately by the Suzhou Industrial Park Education Development and Investment Limited Company.

All international students are guaranteed accommodation throughout their study at XJTLU. Accommodation options range from studios to five-bedroom apartments (subject to availability with preference given to advanced bookings).

Most students stay in the Wencui Parfait apartments where each student has a private bedroom with en-suite bathroom – the average monthly rental fee is RMB 1,600 per month. Rents range from RMB 1,200 per month to RMB 2,100 per month depending on the length of the contract.

If preferred, postgraduate international students can access cheaper, basic dormitory accommodation which is either single or shared with prices ranging from 300-500 RMB per month

About the University Summary

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is an international joint venture university founded by Xi’an Jiaotong University in China and the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. As an independent Sino-foreign cooperative university, it captures the essence of both prestigious parent universities and is the first and only one of its kind approved by the Ministry of Education in China.

The University currently offers approximately 90 degree programmes in the fields of science, engineering, business, finance, architecture, urban planning, language, culture and all are taught in English except for general and basic courses. Undergraduate students earn two degrees: an XJTLU degree from the Chinese Ministry of Education and a globally recognised degree from the University of Liverpool. Postgraduate students receive a University of Liverpool degree that is recognised by the Ministry of Education. All academic departments at XJTLU offer PhD opportunities, which help to fulfill XJTLU’s vision of “becoming a research-led international university in China and a Chinese university recognised internationally for its unique features”.
