Suzhou University of Science and Technology is located in Suzhou, a historical and cultural city known as "Heaven on Earth". It was formed by the merger of the former Suzhou Urban Construction Environmental Protection College and the former Suzhou Railway Teachers College. The coordinated development of full-time general colleges and universities is an excellent college for undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In 2017, it became a university jointly established by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and Jiangsu Province. In the same year, it was approved by Jiangsu Province to award a doctoral degree to the project construction unit.
The school has three campuses of Shihu, Jiangfeng and Tianping. The main campus of Shihu campus is adjacent to Shihu water and sits on the top of the mountain. The environment is beautiful and the scenery is splendid. The campus covers an area of 2,300 acres and the building area is more than 600,000 square meters; there are more than 17,000 full-time undergraduates, more than 1950 postgraduates, and nearly 100 postgraduates studying abroad.
The school has 16 first-level disciplines authorized by master's degree and 8 categories of master's degree authorized by master. Two disciplines were rated B in the fourth round of national disciplinary assessment; six disciplines were selected as the superior discipline construction project of Jiangsu universities, and four disciplines were selected as key disciplines of the "13th Five-Year Plan". Of the 61 undergraduate majors, 3 majors were selected as national-level specialty construction sites, 5 majors were selected as the first batch of national first-class undergraduate major construction sites; 3 majors were selected as Jiangsu university brand professional construction projects, and 5 majors were selected as the first batch of Jiangsu Province First-class undergraduate major construction site; 5 majors passed the higher education major evaluation, and 3 majors passed the engineering education major certification.
The school currently has more than 1,800 faculty members and more than 600 teachers with senior professional and technical positions. There are a number of well-known and well-known teachers including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, American Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering, European Academy of Sciences, and national architectural design masters; national "Jieqing" winners, "Yangtze River Scholars" special professors and other national level More than 40 people have been selected for talent projects; more than 270 people have been selected for various types of provincial talent projects including the second level of the "333 Project" in the province; 9 teaching and scientific innovation teams above the provincial level including the "Double Innovation Team" in Jiangsu Province. Seven people are members of the National College Teaching Steering Committee and Evaluation Committee.
