About Shanghai University

Shanghai University was originally established in 1922. It is located in Shanghai, the financial hub of China. It a population of over 56700 students with over 16900 postgraduates students.
Shanghai University is a research-based institution with the priority of developing talents. The university has over 3100 full-time teaching staff including professors, associate professors, lecturers with doctorates. The university also has 6 full-time members of the prestigious Chinese Academy of Science and the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 10 foreign academicians.

Why Us

Shanghai University is a “211 Project” under the Ministry of Education of China. The University has a wide range of disciplines ranging from engineering, management, science, economics, law, philosophy, arts, literature, history, etc. These courses are for both Chinese and international students. Currently, the university has 29 colleges covering various disciplines in bachelor and master degrees as well as PhD. Shanghai University hosts 19 post-doctoral research stations.

Shanghai University is one of the first universities in China to implement the “Excellent Engineering Education and Training Plan” under the auspices of the Ministry of Education. The Qian Weichang College was part of the first batch of the “Three comprehensive education” pilot reform institutes units under the supervision of the Ministry of Education. Research is one of the major pillars of the university. Thus, the university aims to identify, nurture and develop talents from across the world. These talents are very competitive in the job market due to the exposure and training they receive from us here. The Ministry of Education recognized the contribution of the university to national development by rating it among the first 50 National Typical Experience Universities of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in 2016. In November 2019, 9 disciplines of Shanghai University were rated among the Global Top 1% by one of the most relevant indicators worldwide, the Essential Science Indicators (ESI).
