Hubei University of Economics (hereinafter as HBUE) is a full-time provincial university, approved by the Ministry of Education in September, 2002. The history could be dated back to 1907, when the Hubei Commercial College was founded by Zhang Zhidong. Located in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, and next to the beautiful Tangxun Lake, the University covers an area of 1.46 square kilometers with a construction area of more than 0.67 square kilometers. The beautiful campus sits by a belt of crystal water, looks fare into a distant mountain, with fresh air in the midst of lush tree and is an ideal place to study and pursue academically.

The University conscientiously studies and implements Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and fully implements the Party’s educational policy. Just like its motto says, “Virtue, Erudition, Statecraft, and Benefiting the People”, the University adheres to the school management ideas of being demand-oriented, being innovative in coordination, and seeking for development by serving the talents, keeping its features and abiding by laws. The University focuses on building the undergraduate programs into the first-class ones, on developing the academic productivity, and on keeping the high-quality of the faculties. Besides optimizing the “three comprehensive education” and “five ideological and political aspects”, the university takes on the responsibility of implementing the strict disciplines on its CPC department. The University strives to improve student-centered learning experience and to foster students into 3P+3I talents, namely being practical, pragmatic and proficient, innovative, intelligent, and initiative.

HBUE forms a main trunk of economics and management science along with a related disciplinary system of law, literature, science, engineering and arts. Currently, the university has established a provincial-level cluster of advantageous and characteristic disciplines in modern service industry, and 4 provincial key disciplines, namely, Economics, Business Management, Statistics and Law. In addition, The University boasts 16 disciplines led by Chutian Scholars, 1 master’s degree program, 57 bachelor’s degree programs, 3 national featured programs, 6 national pilot programs, 7 provincial pilot programs, and 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center. HBUE is relatively advantageous in its strong disciplines, such as Finance, Accountancy, Finance and taxation, Law, Logistics and Tourism.

HBUE has fostered many high-quality graduates with special expertise. As the University closely keeps up with the demand of economic and social development, actively explores the reform of talents training mode, vigorously promotes the cooperation and integration of education and industries, and largely advances the undergraduate teaching and education, it has contributed to and gained an honor in supplying talents to the society. Having 15,699 undergraduate students and 503 master students on campus, the university ranks high in terms of the admission score among universities in Hubei Province for many years, and the Master’s program of Accountancy, in particular, has been the top 1 in the admission ratio in Hubei for 5 times since 2012.

The strategy of strengthening the University with talents has been promoted in depth and achieved remarkable results, and HBUE takes its pride in the teaching faculty team, especially the team’s devotion and great vigor. As present, there are 1003 full-time faculty, among whom 50.15% have their doctorates’ degrees, 128 are professors and 394 are associate professors. The University also has 3 scholars under the national program of “Top one thousand scholars plan”, 5 scholars under the national program of “Top ten thousand scholars plan”, 5 scholars under the provincial program of “Top one hundred scholars plan”, 24 scholars are entitled “Chutian scholars”, and 4 professors are employed in different industries. In recent years, HBUE has recruited 40 full-time faculties from Taiwan who are highly recognized by both Chinese mainland’s Taiwan affairs authorities and relevant organizations in Taiwan. Approved by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, the Demonstration Center for Cross-strait Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship of HBUE has become a highlight of the school’s talent team.
