Hubei is the hometown of the famous medical scientist Li Shizhen. Established in 1958, Hubei University of Chinese Medicine is the only undergraduate college of Chinese medicine in Hubei Province. Its predecessor was the Hubei Province School of Traditional Chinese Medicine established in 1954. In 2003, the original Hubei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine merged with the former Hubei College of Medicine Inspection to form the new Hubei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was renamed Hubei University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in March 2010. The school is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning to start Chinese medicine undergraduate education and the earliest Chinese medicine graduate education in China. The Ministry of Education is an excellent school for the evaluation of the undergraduate teaching level of the Ministry of Education. Colleges and universities, the first batch of provincial universities with post-doctoral research mobile stations in Hubei Province; the Hubei Provincial People's Government and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine jointly established universities, Hubei Province "domestic first-class discipline construction universities".
The school is located in Jiangcheng, Wuhan, covering a total area of 1,610 mu and a total construction area of 510,000 square meters. The school currently has 32 undergraduate majors, covering 7 disciplines including medicine, science, engineering, management, literature, education and economics. The school currently has two first-level doctoral degree authorization points for Chinese medicine and Chinese pharmacy.
