Founded in 1956, Guangdong University of Technology is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the metropolis of Guangzhou (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants), Guangdong. Guangdong University of Technology was formed by the merger of the former Guangdong Institute of Technology, Guangdong Institute of Machinery and South China Institute of Construction (East Institute) in June 1995. The school has a 60-year history of running a school. It is a provincial key university based on work, a combination of science, engineering, economics, management, law, and art, and a multi-disciplinary coordinated development. It is a key university in Guangdong's high-level universities.

The school is located in Guangzhou, a famous city in the south of China, with an advantageous geographical location. The campus covers a total area of ​​3,066.67 acres, and has multiple campuses such as University City, Dongfeng Road, and Longdong. The four disciplines of machinery, information, materials and chemical engineering are the key construction disciplines of the "211 Project" in Guangdong Province. In 2015, the school as a whole entered the ranks of high-level universities and high-tech universities in Guangdong province. Why Us

Guangdong University of Technology is located in China’s third largest city Guangdong. It was formerly known to the English-speaking world as Canton. The university traces its roots back to the Guangdong Institute of Technology, which was founded in 1952, and it took its current name when it merged with the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and the Eastern Campus of the South China Institute of Architecture in 1995.

It is classified as a Key Provincial University and describes itself as a “multidisciplinary university engaging with the international community”.

It has 19 schools and faculties, with an emphasis on engineering. The schools of mechanical, materials, chemical and information engineering form part of the national 211 Project. It has more than 70 key laboratories and in 2017 filed 2,166 patent applications, the eighth most from a Chinese university.

The majority of the students are based at the Guangzhou HE Mega Campus in Waihuan Road which opened in 2005.
